Microsoft Russia to File for Bankruptcy Amid Geopolitical Tensions
Microsoft’s Russian subsidiary, Microsoft Rus LLC, has announced plans to declare bankruptcy, marking another exit of a Western tech giant from Russia. The move follows escalating geopolitical tensions and economic isolation stemming from the Ukraine conflict.
The decision was disclosed via a notice on Russia’s Fedresurs registry, signaling an end to Microsoft’s already diminished operations in the country. This development comes shortly after Russian President Vladimir Putin criticized foreign digital service providers, advocating for domestic alternatives.
Microsoft had previously scaled back its Russian presence following the 2022 invasion of Ukraine, joining other Western tech firms in curtailing services. The bankruptcy filing underscores the growing fragmentation of global tech ecosystems amid geopolitical strife.
